Date: Sunday, June 4, 2017
Time: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Location: NAIT Main Campus

The intent of this workshop is to help bring professionals and students working in/interested in working in this area up to speed on current issues, technologies and approaches. The workshop will include the following topics:
1) Clays in oil sands geology,
2) methods for measuring clays used in the oil sands industry,
3) impact of clays on bitumen extraction,
4) impact of clays on flocculation & transport of fines dominated slurries,
5) tailings dewatering mechanisms and the influence of clays,
6) tailings dewatering technologies in the oil sands, and
7) a review of research needs and outstanding questions.

All workshop participants will receive a coil bound pre-view version of the Introduction to Oil Sands Clays Textbook organized by Daryl Hockley and Oladipo Omotoso with chapters written by the presenters. This is a fabulous resource/reference material and contains significant industrial insight as well as fundamental science explanations.  Following the conference this text will be available for purchase as part of the Clay Minerals Society Workshop lecture Series
